I don’t like being too far behind time as far as technology is concerned so when it came to upgrading my mobile contract with Orange, I just had to go for the hot, must have Nokia N95! I must say I’m quite impressed with this phone. I know it won the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) award for ‘The European Media Phone of the Year 2007-2008′, and the TIPA award for the ‘Best Mobile Imaging Device in Europe 2007′ but my previous phone was the Nokia N91! And the N91 is quite a good phone though it is a bit big.
For starters, the N95 is much more ergonomic and a bit smaller, but with bigger buttons that are easier to press. It also has a bigger 2.6 inch screen compared to the N91’s 2.2 inch screen so browsing the internet is more of a pleasure. Plus its video playback looks sharper and better. The N95 feels much lighter on top of that! It fits better in my pocket too. But the one thing that really impressed me was the camera, a 5-megapixel camera at that! It easily beat the N91’s 2-megapixel camera and it has a flash! And the picture quality is amazing with no noticeable graining. In fact it’s as good, if not better than my 5-megapixel digital camera! If the N95 had a digital zoom I probably would leave the digital camera at home more often than not.
The one thing that the N95 phone has that wasn’t on the N91 is integrated GPS. Even there Nokia seems to have made a good job. It’s a pity though that turn-by-turn navigation comes as an additional service.
One thing though, the N95 only supports up to 2GB memory whereas the N91 has a 4GB hard drive! But the sound quality from the built-in stereo speakers is better. I know there’s an 8GB N95 in the pipeline but my contract with Orange was up for renewal, so the timing was out. Hopefully I can do a swap for the N95 8GB when it gets released, then I wouldn’t need to carry an iPod around as well.
